LAX Airport Parking Options

Los Angeles International Airport

Los Angeles International Airport is the world's fourth busiest airport and the United States' second busiest. It happens to be the most trafficked airport in the Western US. Locals tend to rideshare or get dropped off and/or picked up at the terminal.

A revamped LAX is on the way as part of a $15 billion Capital Improvement Program that will modernize facilities and access regional transportation.

Individuals 21 years of age or older may possess up to 28.5 grams of marijuana and 8 grams of concentrated marijuana for personal use as of January 1, 2018.

Temporary art exhibits, permanent art installations, and cultural performances are a part of the Art Program to showcase the talents of local and regional artists.

There are many parking options at LAX, such as terminal self-parking, valet, economy, premium, and electric vehicle (EV) parking. The cheapest alternative for parking is to leave your vehicle at Van Nuys, but it is an hour away from LAX.

Since curbside service is not an option for everyone, I've compiled a summary of the options available for both long and short-term parking.

    On-Site Airport Parking Overview

    Key takeaways

    • If you are only dropping off or picking someone up, use the short term parking at the Central Terminal Parking Lot for $7 for the first hour and $6 for every 30 minutes after that
    • Your best bet for long term parking is LAX Economy Parking - give yourself plenty of time to find a spot and shuttle to the airport
    • If you can't find a spot in Economy Parking or are looking for a cheaper option for long term parking, try a third-party/hotel lot
    • There is a cell phone lot located at 6250 96th St. with 24-hour access that is free for up to two hours

    Airport parking options at LAX

    On-airport lots

There is short term parking available at the Central Terminal Parking Lots starting at $7 for the first hour and $6 for each 30 minutes after. Long term parking is available through LAX Economy Parking though you can usually find a cheaper daily rate at an off-airport lot.

    3rd party lots

Because on-airport, long term parking is limited to Lot C at LAX, you may want to consider a third-party lot to save some money. Private lots are generally further from the airport but will usually offer a shuttle that is less than a ten minute ride to the terminal. Some lots offer premium options like covered/indoor parking and valet services. Check for promo codes before booking to save some extra money.

    Prices are $7 - $32 / day

    Hotels

There are several hotel parking options as well. You may be able to find a better deal than the third-party lots depending on your dates. Look out for the fees that you will pay through the booking websites as well as minimum night stay requirements.

Prices range from $7 - $50 / day (not including booking fee)

    Hotel lots

There are several LAX hotel lots that range from $7 - $50 per day. I found the best deals on ParkMe and way, although I have not personally booked with any of these sites. Many hotels in the LAX area require a minimum two-night stay to park long-term so be sure to check the terms before booking.

The important thing to remember is that the websites linked below don’t actually operated the hotel parking or shuttles. The hotels do. You’re just booking through these sites kind of like you would with Orbitz or Travelocity for flights.

It is recommended you review my guide to airport parking, particularly the section on hotel lots here to learn more information about hotel sites prior to booking.

    FAQ's

Yes. For free parking, you can use the Cell Phone Waiting Lot adjacent to the SW corner of Economy Lot C. This is a perfect option if you’re planning to just pick up passengers and not going to stay at LAX longer.

Generally, the cheapest parking depends on your needs. However, the most affordable parking option at LAX is at Economy Parking. The rates here start at $35 per day.

Yes. Valet parking service at LAX Airport starts at $75 per day. This service is located in P1, P2a, P4, and P7. For more questions about this service, you may send an email to [email protected] or call (310) 646-2911.

Yes, LAX offers charging stations. You can use EV Economy on the second floor and EV Terminal located in P5, P1, and P6 with a service fee of $2 and a usage charge of $0.45/kWh. For more information about this service and prebook your spot, go to this link.

Parking your motorcycles is free inside the Central Terminal Area parking lot. Don’t take a parking ticket and don’t park in a space dedicated to cars. You must park at the ends of rows, in corners, and in other spaces that don’t block access to parked vehicles, handicapped spaces, and others. On the other hand, if you’re driving oversized vehicles with the purpose of delivering goods, you might acquire a Vendor Delivery Parking Permit.

Yes. You can book your parking lot at LAX ahead of time by making your reservation on their official website. On the other hand, if you’re planning to park short-term parking, they can for hold a spot for you for three hours or less. There are also offsite parking lots you can use and book your space well in advance:

Unfortunately, parking discounts for active military men and veterans are not available at LAX.

Yes. There are marked parking spaces for customers with restricted mobility available in each parking lot near the terminal entrance, subject to availability. Your vehicle must have official disabled license plates or other permits displayed to park in these reserved spaces.

American Airlines is located in Terminal 4 at LAX. Passengers on American Airlines can check-in either at Terminal 4 or Terminal 5. Terminal 4 is halfway into the airport building making it a relatively short walk from security. While still in progress, there are already some significant improvements made to Terminal 4 at LAX including a new multi-level facility for transporting passengers to Terminals 4-8 making connecting flights easier to get to on time.

Delta Airlines is located in Terminal 3 at LAX. Passengers on Delta Airlines check-in at terminal 3 and are then transported to Terminal 2 from which planes depart. Delta, along with Aeromexico are unique in that these passengers have to check in at Terminal 2 before getting transportation to the new Terminal 3 from which they will depart. Construction is still underway at Terminal 3, but this may change when that is completed.

JetBlue Airlines is located in Terminal 5 at LAX. Terminal 5 at LAX has recently been updated. The $229 million project made room for JetBlue as well as Spirit Airlines among a host of new dining and shopping options and an expanded ticketing lobby and security checkpoint to make the check-in process faster and more convenient for passengers. It is suggested you leave a little extra time when departing from Terminal 5 at LAX as construction continues and may slow down your transit times.

Southwest Airlines is located in Terminal 1 at LAX. Passengers on Southwest Airlines check-in at terminal 1 and are then bused to Terminal B from which planes depart. A $447 million project is underway to modernize and expand Terminal 1 at LAX. Dining options may not be open in this Terminal when you travel, but you will have access to dining in other terminals, should you require it. Leave yourself plenty of time if traveling from Terminal 1 until the construction is complete.

United Airlines is located in Terminal 7 at LAX. United/United Express flights may be located either at Terminal 7 or Terminal 8. Stay in the far eft lane if dropping off passengers at Terminal 7 in LAX for the best traffic experience. Travelers on United will enjoy a completed renovation project that expanded ticketing stations and security checkpoints to make an efficient transit to your gate. A New Unite Luxe passenger lobby is also available for United passengers in Terminal 7.

The signs at LAX for this are confusing. Once you leave the terminal, turn left. You'll see a sign for a shuttle pickup at some point, but you can keep walking that way, past the terminal, for less than 10 minutes, and you'll be at the Uber / Lyft pickup. Alternatively you can wait at the shuttle pickup but it's a short walk.
